Business looks different between the dots
Between the Dots is a business podcast UK listeners can turn to for honest stories about what it really takes to build, run and sometimes rebuild a business.
BUSINESS PODCAST UK > BETWEEN THE DOTS
When everyone else looks successful, it’s easy to think you’re the only one struggling...
Often when you scroll through social media and what other businesses are doing, it can look remarkably easy.
A new business launches, another is growing beyond their wildest dreams, and someone else is celebrating another record month.
The difficult bits are condensed into a reflective sentence about resilience before the story moves swiftly on to the success.
What you don’t often see are the sleepless nights, wrong turns, difficult conversations and ideas that seemed brilliant until they weren’t.
You don’t see the plan that unravelled, the client who disappeared, the opportunity that became an expensive distraction or the moment somebody quietly wondered whether they could carry on.
When those parts remain hidden, it creates a distorted picture of what running a business really involves.
Between the Dots exists to tell the rest of the story.
Welcome to the real business conversations
Between the Dots is a series of honest business conversations with founders, leaders and the people responsible for making things happen.
We want to understand what really took place behind the visible milestones. What worked? What didn’t? Which decisions changed everything? What went spectacularly wrong? And what do they know now that they wish they had understood at the beginning?
These aren’t polished success stories or carefully rehearsed sales pitches. They’re honest and open conversations about the reality of trying something, learning from it and continuing to move forward.
There will be useful ideas, uncomfortable truths, unexpected turns and probably the occasional colourful word.
Because sometimes the most valuable part of somebody’s story is the part they nearly left out.
Why Between the Dots?
People often talk about reading between the lines. In business, we think you also need to look between the dots.
One dot marks where somebody began. Another represents where they appear to be today. From the outside, it’s tempting to draw a neat, straight line between the two and call that their story.
But the real story lives in the space between.
It’s in the decisions, detours, mistakes, near misses, changes of heart and moments when they nearly stopped. It’s in the opportunities they didn’t take, the things they had to unlearn and the plans that only made sense after everything else had failed.
Between the Dots is where we slow down and explore that space.
We know how different the real story can be
Between us, we’ve spent decades building businesses and helping other people develop theirs.
There have been successes we’re proud of, but there have also been mistakes, plans that unravelled and endings we didn’t expect.
We’ve made decisions with incomplete information, discovered that things weren’t what they first appeared to be and found ourselves having to work out what came next.
We’ve also started again.
Those experiences changed how we look at business. They taught us that the neat version is rarely the useful version and that honest conversations can make difficult periods feel a little less isolating.
Between the Dots could be for you if…
You may be building a business and wondering whether everybody else knows something you don’t.
Perhaps you’re navigating a difficult period, recovering from a decision that didn’t work or trying to understand what your next chapter should look like.
You might simply be curious about what happens behind the public version of a business and want to hear from people prepared to speak honestly about it.
You don’t need to be a business owner either.
Between the Dots is for anyone who makes decisions, carries responsibility, supports a team or wants a more realistic understanding of how businesses and the people behind them develop.
If you value substance over slogans and real experience over effortless-looking success, you’ll be in good company.

Because business is rarely a straight line
There is a beginning and there may eventually be an outcome worth celebrating.
Between those two points, almost everything can change.
The original plan may be abandoned. The offer may evolve. A setback may reveal a better direction. Something that appeared to be a failure may become the experience that made a later success possible.
That messy middle is often where the most important learning happens.
By sharing it, we hope to make business feel a little more human and help more people make sense of their own journey while they’re still living it.
Could your story be the one somebody needs to hear?
You don’t need a huge following, an eight-figure turnover or a dramatic exit to have a story worth sharing.
Perhaps you built something from nothing, survived a difficult chapter or discovered that the business you originally wanted wasn’t the business you needed.
Maybe you made a mistake that taught you more than your greatest success.
Or perhaps you know somebody whose experience deserves a wider audience.
We’re looking for real people willing to talk openly about the good, the bad and the parts that didn’t go remotely according to plan.
Your Between the Dots questions answered
What is Between the Dots?
Between the Dots is a podcast exploring the real stories behind businesses and the people building them.
Through honest business conversations, we look beyond visible success to explore the decisions, challenges, mistakes and turning points that shaped each guest’s journey.
Who is the podcast for?
The podcast is for business owners, leaders, team members and anyone curious about what really happens behind the scenes of building and running a business.
You don’t need to own a business to find something useful in the conversations.
What makes these business interviews different?
Our interviews aren’t designed to produce another polished success story.
We want to understand the journey between where somebody started and where they are now, including what went wrong, what changed and what they learned along the way.
Will there be swearing?
Possibly... in fact let's say Probably!
We want people to speak naturally, and sometimes the most accurate word for a situation isn’t especially suitable for radio.
We won’t use strong language simply for effect, but we also won’t pretend every business conversation happens in perfectly polished sentences.
Can I suggest myself or somebody else as a guest?
Yes.
You can suggest your own story or recommend somebody you believe would make a thoughtful and interesting guest.
A huge audience or conventional success story isn’t required. We’re interested in honesty, useful experiences and people with something real to share.
Where can I watch or listen?
Episodes and links to the available podcast platforms will be published here as the series launches.
Whose story should we hear next?
If you have a business story you’d be willing to share, we’d love to hear a little about it. You can also suggest somebody else whose journey belongs Between the Dots.
You don’t need to write the whole story here. Just give us enough to understand what happened between where it began and where things are today.
